The weekend begins with an opening ceremony on Friday evening. Then there is a choice of nine workshops over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening has the Wild Woman open mic night, where participants are invited to dress up and ‘come as the goddess you are’, and have the opportunity to entertain the group with music, song, dance, poetry, comedy, storytelling, games, etc.

On Sunday afternoon there is usually a talk by a wise elderwoman, followed by a ritual closing ceremony. Usually the Wise Woman Weekend has taken place in the Sligo/Leitrim area, around the Bealtaine moon. Women have come from all over Ireland to share their wisdom and laughter at this celebration at the beginning of summer.

Feedback from participants suggests that they’d like to see the Wise Woman Weekend visit all the provinces, so, in response, this year we have lifted our roots and are making our way to Tipperary. This is a first step in bringing the Wise Woman effect to all corners of the country. This year’s workshops include a harmonious mix of movement, meditation, creativity, practicality, fun and depth based around the theme of Nurturing Connection. These include:

  • ‘I Dance Therefore I Am’ with Derrie McGahon
  • Dancing in to Wellness in the Modern Age’ with Geraldine O’Brian
  • ‘Journey to Gaia’ with Jackie Juno
  • ‘How does your garden grow’ with Susie Minto
  • ‘The Authentic Self in Relationship’ with Katherine Howard
  • ‘Connecting to our True Selves’ with Melanie Restall
  • ‘Joined-up Writing’ with Ruth Marshall
  • ‘Herbal Soul Art’ with Sherrie Scott
  • ‘Introduction to Indian Head Massage’ with Tina Roc

The weekend will be a fully residential weekend, with meals, accommodation and participation all included in the price. As ever, we are trying to keep the costs to a minimum and we hope this move will encourage new women to join us. Wise Woman Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation, and any monies raised go towards the costs of putting on the next event. All the facilitators and organisers of the Wise Woman Weekend give their time and efforts as volunteers, out of a wish to make this chance to explore the sacred feminine available to any woman, regardless of her financial circumstances. We're looking forward to a weekend of celebration, fun, mystery, ritual, learning and discovery, that honours the feminine.
